Happy St. Patrick's Day!

It is the 17th of March and the whole world wants to be Irish. That's the power of S. Patrick's Day, and I had the great opportunity to experience that special day.

St. Patrick's day is a cultural and religious celebration, as it is the traditional death date of Saint Patrick, the Patron of Ireland. It is a four day long Festival with a wide variety of theatre, music, arts and sports events. The Irish drink their famous beer - the Guiness - in their typical Irish Pubs.

On the day itself people dress up and traditionally wear Green and/or shamrocks, and watch the Dublin Parade, which is very well visited. Over 1 Mio people come together in the heart of the City, most of them at Trinity College and O'Connell Street where the biggest Hype is.

It is adviseable to come to Dublin at about 10 am, because the route gets crowed very fast and the good spots are gone soon.

At 12:30 the first "pageants" arrived, those people come from all over the world and perform different shows and dances. The Parade took about 2 - 3 hours, which can be quite long when it's cold outside like it was this year. Afterwards all the people head into a pub or a restaurant, that's why everything is very well organised and watched by securities and policemen and women - called Garda in Ireland - who hold the peace among the crowd.

Anyway it's an experience you should make once in a lifetime, and I really enjoyed the Humor and the Spirit of the whole City at that day. And I obviously liked the fact that we had a day off school too.

Here some photos of brilliant St. Patrick's Day
